HAIRLESSNESS – #3 TRUE HAIRLESS

Pictures taken at day 5, almost 3 weeks and 5 weeks (ears already up naturally!).

LEVEL OF HAIRLESSNESS:  To me, Michelangelo and puppies like him are ideal as if someone likes true hairless Chinese Cresteds. He has enough hair on his head, feet and tail without all the excessive body hair. He has a cap of hair on his head. It does not grow down his neck.  Half of his tail is covered with a nice plume and his socks grow up his legs but is still fairly sparse. He does have a few strands of stray body hair but so little that it’s hardly noticeable. The pictures above at day 5, at 2 1/2 weeks and 5 weeks show his facial hair and the rest of him.

Michelangelo is a lavender with red furnishings. His skin is not slate (shades of grayish blue to almost black) and not palomino (shades of palest tan to medium brown)/ He is a lavender which is very rare skin coloring. His red furnishings lightened up and is almost white.

GROOMING:  Kubie’s parents called us after they saw Michelangelo’s baby pictures when he was around 4 weeks. They were in love with him. They did ask how small or big he was going to be and my projection was 4-5 pounds. They said, “Perfect!!!” They love Kubie who ended up being only 5 pounds and for them, it is the ideal size. Small enough to take everywhere but big enough for their young human children to play with.  Just like Kubie, they did not want anything groomed on him. They loved him as is.

LIFESTYLE: Michelangelo’s Dad flew in on his private jet to pick him up rather than having a Puppy Nanny. The moment he held his boy, it was all about the baby. We know they love Kubie so we knew they would love Michelangelo also. They kept his birth name too! What his parents love best about our Chinese Cresteds: super socialization, tiny size, great personalities and health. What we love about them: they LOVE Chinese Cresteds and are just amazing parents. Just like Kubie, Michelangelo fit right into their home of Cresteds. He can keep up with his much bigger siblings.

Chocolate colored with hazel eyes Prince Cowboy (Dorian) is a great example of #3 true hairless.

MORE Videos of Prince Cowboy (Dorian)

G Dragon is an amazing hairless Chinese Crested with flawless skin. He is another example of #3, bordering on #4 hairless Chinese Crested. He has a tiny patch of hair on his rear end and few stray hair  on his body which are hardly noticeable. He has a bit more body hair and furnishings than Michelangelo or Cowboy Dorian, the chocolate boy, and a bit less body hair and furnishings than Benji #4. Since G Dragon a #3 with this patterning of body hair, his body can go for months without being groomed. We do like his face buzzed every 2 months or so since he gives kisses on request.

More furnishings = more body hair. Less body hair = less crest, socks and plume. I think you made that clear. Frankly, your examples are really great and if people bothered to read your articles, they’ll get it. Thank you for posting and taking the mystery out of the hairlessness. Cheers!

We understand that it can be confusing. If you see lots of socks and hair on the head/down neck= very hairy. Most Cresteds in the AKC shows are very hairy to super hairy hairless. Read the articles on hairlessness on this site. It’s the best information available! Good luck!

My Crested girl is very hairy all over. I love all parts of her. To me she is beautiful. She is my first Crested baby and I didn’t realize she was so hairy until the hair started to grow in. Her breeder did not tell me about the amount of body hair. She just said she was a hairless and that she would be really small at 12 pounds. Well at 16 pounds, I thought she was small. But compared to these Crested babies, my girl is an amazon. I do prefer the very hairy ones since her furnishings are so nice. One day, I will have one of these gorgeous miniature Crested. ;-D xoxox

Mythic is the best. I’ve checked out all the sites for Cresteds, and keep checking them. I’ve called around and no body has as much information as them. Yes, other breeders will put in their comments about how Cresteds are suppose to be big… Then I’ll ask them about the food they use, how they socialize, will my puppy come to me in cargo… and it’s either talk around the subject or business as usual. They want their money in or their puppy is gone. Frankly, I don’t want my puppy from a standard breeder who does it the way everyone else does. I am super serious about getting my first Crested baby and I want the best. It seems remarkable that a breeder doesn’t push puppies and doesn’t ask for deposits. I’ve been following them for couple of years now and so far, they are amazing. I have learned more from them than any book or site. I have wanted a Crested since I was a teen. I want a less hairy one. Good luck and do your research and interview.

Totally agree. It’s really annoying to have Chinese Crested breeders not talk about the hairlessness. They make it sound like all the puppies are born with no body hair and full furnishings. I think the way these guys number the hairlessness makes so much sense. The lower the number, less body hair and less furnishings. The higher the number, the more body hair and more furnishings. Mine is about a 8 and a 6. I love them but not as cute as these guys. ANd they are giants compared to these little ones. I got mine sent via cargo and could afford them. You know the typical Crested breeder. They are not interested in hearing from me unless I want to buy another one. you know the story. I’m saving up to get a Mythic kingdom puppy! Yehhhhh.

    Hey Confused,
have you met Cresteds in real life? they do come bald to super fuzzy to puffs. We don’t have a Crested from Mythic Kingdom but they are right on the money. We get people saying, “Oh that’t that dog with no hair!” We’ll we have or had 2 super hairy Crested with more body hair than anyone could say qualifies as a hairless, but they are hairless. 2 powderpuffs that were confused with super hairy when the super hairies body hair grew out. 1 very hairy with the strip of hair down the back and each leg. 1 with very little body hair and a mohawk. You just have to know how much hair is good for you. No Chinese Cresteds do not have the full wig look and thick socks without body hair! It is one or the other or a combination of. They are the most loving so you really cannot go wrong with any of them. Personally, we prefer the super hairy and powderpuffs but love them all.

Why are these Chinese Crested not look like the other ones on the net? These seem to have very little hair on their heads? Is it because they are smaller? Other breeders say their cresteds are hairless or powderpuffs. Confused…

We like the hairier ones or the puffs. They feel nicer to the touch. Hairier the better. But your little naked ones are cute too!

This is a superb Blog. I encourage anyone with a Chinese Crested to read about the amount of body hair as other breeder do not write about this.

Your Cresteds are the very best! We have done the standard size Cresteds from show and hobby breeders and your puppies do cost more. Having said that, we are so happy we adopted from you instead this last time around. The extra money we spent was worth it since we have not had any issues with our baby. She is perfect and priceless.

This info is priceless. When can I find out more?

  • GooGooLook . February 21, 2017 .

Great article! Never see other breeders writing about how much body hair a hairless Crested can have. Most trustworthy source that we use.

  • LyraB9080 . February 20, 2017 .

Amazing article on Cresteds for visitors. You are the only breeders who post any information on hairlessness and other important information. Why don’t other breeders open up? We really love the info you give out. Thanks

Hairless Cresteds come in such varying degrees of hairlessness that it can be confusing. We have families who have never loved a Crested but want one asking for a true hairless one with lots of furnishings. It’s either true hairlessness or lots of body hair and furnishings. Glad this article was helpful.

You are the only site that gives specific information on Cresteds. How about a book on Chinese Cresteds? That would be awesome!!!!
