Mosaic Blue Odd Eyed Chinese Cresteds

Mythic Blue Indigo is a blue mosaic odd eyed hairless Chinese Crested bred and born at Mythic Kingdom. His left eye is blue. His right eye is brown with a patch of blue on the lower part of his iris. These pictures were taken at 5 months.

Mythic Blue Indigo is a super rare Chinese Crested boy. He is 5 months in this picture.

Most Chinese Cresteds have brown to black eyes. Very few are ever born with other eye coloring. There are the rarest of the rare of the eye colors are called mosaics, or sectoral heterochromia. The iris will have 2 colors. For example, an eye can have brown with some blue sections. A odd eye puppy with 2 eyes of different color have complete heterochromia.

When a puppy opens their eyes, it has a gray bluish haze to them. All puppies have this. Then at around 4 weeks or so, we will notice a blue or a green coloring that gets deeper and richer looking. These puppies will have blue eyes or green/hazel which may or may not turn to hazel/amber. Of the very few of these puppies, we will notice a flicker of blue coloration in a part of the eye. We used to think that the puppy’s eye was catching the surrounding coloration. But over time, we notice the color is not a reflection but a coloration of the part of the iris. It shimmers like a moon stone.

Of the puppies we have bred with mosaic eye, they have so far been blue odd eyed. That means, they have one blue eye and the other brown with blue mosaic coloring in it.

Mythic Blue Indigo is out of 2 double blue eyed hairy hairless Chinese Crested parents. King Mickey Blue Eyes and Queen Plata both are true deer types with piercing blue eyes. They are both black and pink with white and black furnishings. Indigo’s litter sister, future Queen Noriko, is a high energy white and black powderpuff girl with the standard double black/brown eyes.

We will post example of any other mosaic eyed puppies, young adults, and adults when we have them.

We are the first and only Chinese Crested breeders who specialize in breeding the smallest sized puppies with the rarest of eye coloring for families who want the very best.

UPDATE 11/6/17:

Mythic Blue Indigo is almost a year old and weighs in at just under 8 pounds. He is a medium energy boy who LOVES to play with other Cresteds. He is quite athletic and can run and play with the best of them. He’s easy to get on with but he will not put up with anyone getting too wild with him. He’ll remind them that he’s the man on top. When it’s human love time, Indigo gets picked up and he likes to be held close, chest to chest. He is really into having his face close to ours or on our neck. He’s really funny this way. He’ll melt into us when he’s held like this. If the other kids are in a different room, he’ll take a nap and love all the attention he gets. But if he sits on our laps with his face looking out at the play action going on, he wants to play.

We kept Indigo with us and we so enjoy having him as part of our 4 legged kid pack. If I could keep them all, I would. I do have a soft spot for Crested boys so Tim and I made an agreement for me to keep the boys as long as I want. This way, I get to love them as long as I can. Then when We have an idea of what is best for our breeding program, we either keep them or find loving families for them. We are keeping Indigo’s powderpuff sister, Noriko, so we will find a family who will adore Indigo as much as he deserves.

Mythic Blue Indigo is a hairy hairless Chinese Crested, a #6 on our hairlessness scale. He has  a thick band of hair from the top of his head all the way to his tail. He has the very classic band of hair down his legs with complete bare patch on his side. He is very much like our first Chinese Crested baby, Lady Godiva, who had very similar hair patterning. We will take pictures of Indigo as the model for #6 degree of harlessness.

Our friend has 1 green/blue eye and 1 brown with blue/gray spot, the mosaic, like your dogs. His eyes are the most amazing, and of course, all of us can never forget his eyes. They are so dreamy and other worldly. We never knew a dog could have this too. We are huge fans of your website. Your knowledge of dogs and puppies is stupendous! Thanks for generously sharing what you know.

Hi. You can read our article on the Ideal Hairless Skin in the Chinese Crested Information category. Not all hairless Chinese Cresteds have bad skin. They can have great skin, like G Dragon. It is from following the genetic line of good skin, along with the very best food and supplements, and natural skin products. It is not a simple answer. The best thing you can do for your Crested is to use the highest and complete nutrition. Use only natural products to clean and not not use sun block. I know Crested families who say they use it everyday on their Cresteds but it’s not good for them. I would not use a baby sunblock on my human kids so why would I use it on my 4 legged kids? Also, use clothing made of cotton, angora, alpaca… natural fibers. And no, we have tons of Persian wool carpets that puppies and adults play and sleep on and they have never caused skin irritation. When you are transitioning, make one change at a time (food, supplements, shampoo, clothing…) to see what the individual changes are. You should also get in contact with your breeder or breeders to get their advice. As the breeders, they should be able to give you advice. Best of luck.

I’m interested in your teacup Chinese crests but I’m having a hard time locating any information on them. Where are you located?

  • J W 2017 . April 9, 2017 .

Thank you for the information on eye coloring. We love blue eyed Cresteds but never saw one that is a mosaic. Your dogs are the most amazing examples of Cresteds. We love that they are smaller and that you and your family raise them in the home. We have found puppies raised in the home are so much better socialized than ones raised in a pet shop or by a single breeders. Our blue eyed boy is a standard sized boy at a whopping 19 pounds. He has terrible skin breakouts. We looked at all your puppy pictures and noticed your puppies have fabulous skin. Any suggestions?
